Khalida Gill case re-opened

Lahore: The Investigation of the murder case of Mrs. Khalida Gill at Raiwind Diocese transferred to the ASP Dr. Farid Ahmed, PSP Officer of Sato Katla Police Station by a Board of Senior Police Officials here on Monday, 12th June 2006 at Lahore. The case was registered vide FIR No. 152/2006 on 26.04.2006 by the Raiwind City Police on the statement of deceased Mrs. Khalida Gill (w/o Dr. Raja Nathaniel Gill the former legal advisor of the Raiwind Diocese), who in her dying statement held Bishop Samuel Robert Azraiah and his men responsible for attempt on her life, upon which a case u/s 324 PPC was registered against Bishop Azraiah and his men. Later the FIR was modified into a murder case u/s 302 PPC when deceased Mrs. Khalida Gill succumbed to injuries in Jinnah Hospital, Lahore . Initially, investigation of the case was handed over to the Sub-Inspector (SI) of the Raiwind City Police Station, which was transferred to a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Lahore on Bishop Azraiah`s request. The said DSP on 22.05.2006 appeared before Mr. Justice Mohammad Azher Chaudhry, Additional Session Judge Lahore and filed Interim Charge Sheet in the Court, in which he declared Bishop Azraiah and his men innocent on the ground of want of evidence against him, whereupon the Session Court granted bail to the Bishop and his men and Bishop on the very same day left the Country. Concurrently, Dr. Raja Nathaniel Gill husband of the victim moved an application to the Police high officials, therein praying constitution of a Board to deliberate on the investigation carried out by the above-said DSP. As prayed a Board under the Chairmanship of Senior Superintendent of Police Lahore was constituted for the hearing of case. The applicant told the Board that his witnesses were not considered by the investigation officer and alleged that he has been bribed by the Bishop, for which he provided martial evidence to the Board. The Board consisting of senior police officials after hearing the case and perusing the record recommended transfer of investigation from DSP to some senior police officer, at which the investigation of the case has been transferred to the Assistant Superintendent of Police Lahore Dr. Farid Ahmed, PSP Officer of Sato Katla Police Station to investigate the case on merit.
