Army vigilance, mild to moderate surge of water next 7 days in Sindh

LARKANA: August 1, 2015. (Nazir Siyal) Indus River at Guddu and Sukkur flowing high flood level and rising trends at various locations of Larkana, Ghotki, Khairpur embankments and towards Kotri Barrages till the next 7 days. Hundreds of villages and thousands of hectors bumper crop washed away. Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned concerned authorities of districts for 24 hours vigilance around the embankments at River Indus particularly on 46 vulnerable dykes and locations. Alarming surge of flood water continue to threaten most sensitive Shaink, Qadirpur, Tori, Aqil Agani and other embankments, the Katach areas have been completely submerged. The local administration ordered displaced population for complete shifting to safer places. The Commissioner Larkana Division also issued flood emergency warning in view of the flood situation. Mild to moderate torrent of water threatening all around the Katcha areas and hundreds of Katcha villages of Ghotki, Kashmore, Larkana, Khairpur, Sukkur and Shaheed Benazirabad and recedes. Besides, Pakistan Army and other line departments started their extensive patrolling of embankments at River Indus. In Sukkur, the opposition leader in National Assembly (NA) Syed Khursheed Shah after visiting flood-hit areas on Saturday said that if the situation worsens, there is a possibility of imposition of emergency in flood-hit areas. He said several camps are empty till now, the affectees would have to leave their homes immediately for safety he said. The water level range between 650,000 cusecs and 750,000 cusecs at Sukkur downstream afternoon and current discharge of flood water at Guddu was 726469 and 719172 cusecs downstream level, while at Sukkur Barrage level 600411 cusecs and discharge 581081 cusecs recorded. The Kotri reported 223726 cusecs upstream water level and 216601 cusecs recorded. Whereas, the discharge of water at Rasool Headworks was recorded 30,260 cusecs, 69,920 cusecs at Marala Headworks, 75,714 cusecs at Khanki Headworks, 59,276 cusecs at Qadirabad, 143,398 cusecs at Trimmu Headworks, 15,915 cusecs at Baloki Headworks, 32,359 cusecs at Sidhnai Headworks, 24,794 cusecs at Sulemanki Headworks and 15,578 cusecs water was recorded at Islam Headworks.
