Pakistan: Brick kiln worker badly injured by kiln owners

Sahiwal: August 11, 2015. (PCP) A Christian brick kiln worker named Asif Masih S/o Emmanuel Masih, resident of Chak No. 90/9-L Sahiwal, Pakistan punished badly by his owner Rana Shamshair and his co-owner Muhammad Ali on demanding raise in wage as per notification of Government of Punjab. The owners are paying only Rs. 500 per thousand bricks but the Government of Punjab notified wage of 100 bricks is Rs. 968. The laborer reached with serious head injury at the office of Insan Dost Association, a non-profit organization, which is working for the protection and promotion of laborers’ rights especially brick kiln workers along with Freedom Network in 15 districts of the Punjab. A social activist of the IDA along with seriously injured laborer made immediate visit at nearby Ghalla Mandi police station for registration of First Information Report (F.I.R) where police official wrote down the report and instructed to visit District Headquarter Hospital for medical report. The disadvantaged poor laborer with the support of IDA reached local hospital where slapdash attitude and behavior faced due to doleful administration. After massive efforts of entire day by association’s worker the medical report prepared but not handed over to laborer by hospital administration besides that directed him to inform police station for taking over the medical report. After spent out 36 hours still medical report not reached into the police station as well as powerlessly law enforcement agencies unable to take any affirmative action against the brick kiln owners. Insan Dost Association, Freedom Network and vast laborers jointly protested in front of Press club Sahiwal against the shameful and criminal act of brick kiln owners and demanded justice for with Asif Masih as still waiting even for proper medical treatment in the local DHQ hospital and registration of FIR.
