Naveed John aged 24 has been languishing in prison since his arrest. The legal team of Naveed John when appeared in the court to defend Naveed against the accusation, they were told that Judge went on leave and police would not submit their report or produce Naveed in the court. The next date of hearing was fixed October 20, 2015. Naveed John exorcised demons and healed those who were sick. He became famous and many people from all religions used to visit him to be healed. Naveed’s Muslim follower gave him an antique sword few days ago which had Quranic verses engraved on it. He took this gift and placed it in his prayer room covered in glass case where all those in need visited him and where he exorcised demons. On 8th October a police constable named Muhammad Naeem filed a complaint against Naveed John stating that he had shown disrespect towards the Quran and Islam. Muhammad Naeem reported that Naveed possessed a sword which was engraved with Quranic verses and he placed that sword next to his feet and legs. By doing so he did not show respect towards Islam and hence committed blasphemy. Naveed John’s family has been receiving threats and is concerned about their security as one of their family members has been accused of committing blasphemy. Speaking Sadaf Saddique Advocate, Sakhawat Masih, Naveed’s elder brother also told that a few days before Naveed was arrested, the police came to their house and demanded a huge sum of money on monthly basis as a bribe for the safety of their family. The police also threatened that if they denied then they will have to face the consequences. Sakhawat Masih and their family told the police that Naveed does not work for money and that there was no change that he ever has such kind of money as the police demanded. The elder brother further added that Naveed was taken by the police from a street and much later during the day the police came to their house and forcibly entered in the house and forcibly took the sword from the glass case form Naveed’s room and made up concocted story to bring false accusation against him. The family and the community is in constant fear while Sadaf Saddique, Tahir Naveed Chauhdry and Shahzad Fateh (Advocates) were able to encourage the community for not fearing and face the allegations and challenges with the courage, hope and trust that everything has been taken care of from the Lord.
