Lahore: January 6, 2016. (Pervez Yousaf) In order to promote peace and harmony a gathering of Capuchin Schools’ teachers assembled in Lahore to hold a candle vigil for the promotion of peace and harmony. The initiative was taken by the manager of Capuchin schools Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap, who is also the coordinator of Council for Interfaith Dialogue, Pakistan. The principals, Christian and Muslim teachers along with domestic staff of the schools were present in the vigil. On this occasion talking to the teachers Fr. Francis Nadeem said, “The role of a teacher is very important to groom the moral fiber of their students. Whatever the children learn in schools they follow and share it with their families and friends. Therefore, it is imperative for all the teachers of schools, colleges, universities and other academic institutions to impart the education of peace, national and interreligious harmony to their students in addition to the prescribed academic syllabus.” He said that in our schools Christian and Muslim students study together and enjoy good friendship without any sort of discrimination, which is a significant demonstration of interfaith harmony. He also urged the entire nation to say yes to peace and no to hatred and discrimination so that peace may prevail in our motherland. Fr. Nadeem extended greetings to Muslim brethren for Eid Milad-ul-Nabi and to Christian community for the Christmas. All the participants offered prayer for restoration of peace and promotion of national harmony while holding illuminated candles in their hands. The prayer was led by Br. Adnan Kashif OFM Cap. The teachers also vowed to grow peace in the mindset of their students considering it their moral and national duty. Some of the teachers were also holding placards inscribed with the slogans of peace, love and care.
