Faisalabad: January 24, 2016. (PCP) In a letter to Mr. Abdul Sattar, Director, National Commission for Human Rights, Ministry of Law, Justice & Human Rights, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad Ref, No. PMTA/02/16-kpr, dated January 23, 2016 Professor Anjum James Paul, Chairman, Pakistan Minorities Teachers’ Association (PMTA) has requested to return abducted Sana Shahid to her parents as her daddy asks, “When will our daughter be returned to us.”. The content of the letter is below. To Mr. Abdul Sattar Director National Commission for Human Rights Ministry of Law, Justice & Human Rights Government of Pakistan Islamabad Subject: - SANA SHAHID’S DADDY ASKS, “WHEN WILL OUR DAUGHTER BE RETURNED TO US” Honourable Sir, Greetings and peace from Pakistan Minorities Teachers’ Association (PMTA). PMTA highly appreciates you for showing your concerns regarding Sana Shahid’s case, a 13 years old Christian teenage girl and student of grade 5 who has been kidnapped, forcibly converted to Islam and married to Waheed Akhter S/O Muhammad Bashir in Sialkot on the same day on November 9, 2015. Pakistan Minorities Teachers’ Association has supplied you the documents of Sana’s case when Chairman PMTA met you in your good office on December 14, 2015 regarding this issue and now, the family of the victim has sent you the documents of this serious issue to your good office on January 11, 2016. Sir, There is deliberate negligence of the Provincial Ministry of Human Rights & Minorities Affairs, Government of Punjab which has failed to take any steps for the recovery of an innocent teenage non-Muslim girl, Sana Shahid who is a child under the land law. Her forced marriage is an open violation of Child Marriage Restraint Act 1929 and Women Protection Act 2006 but in this case the accused Waheed Akhter S/O Muhammad Bashir, resident of Mohallah Kasayian, Roads Road, Miyanapura, Sialkot. The local police has failed to arrest him on the violation of land law which has raised questions of law and order and efficiency on the Punjab Police. PMTA demands the government of Pakistan to take stern action against all those individuals who are involved in this case and have presented false documents to the court that Sana Shahid is adult and of 18 years of age. Marriage certificate of Sana Shahid has become a question mark and a challenge on the Birth Registration Certificate, Government of Punjab, Pakistan. According to the Birth Registration Certificate, Government of Punjab, Pakistan, Sana Shahid was born on April 17, 2002. There is the same record according to the Catholic Church Birth Certificate. Her School Leaving Certificate presents the same birth record. After presenting three official records of the birth of Sana Shahid, PMTA is concerned regarding the protection of the victim. Though Child Protection Bureau Punjab is very active in various cases but the silence on this issue is meaningful. Perhaps, her case is not being treated on human rights basis and the victim and her family has no human rights in their own homeland being non-Muslim. There is guarantee of fundamental human rights of all citizens in the Constitution of Pakistan but her rights are being violated by the law and order institution and no concerned quarter is verifying her actual age. The Punjab government seems biased in this case and is creating sense of insecurity in the non-Muslims. God gifts non-Muslim families with their beloved daughters and they also love and keep them as the follower of any other religion loves his/her daughter. Let the daughters of non-Muslims stay with their parents and do not snatch them as they are fragile. PMTA requests you to make the case of Sana Shahid an exemplary one so that Pakistani non-Muslims feel them protected and stop fleeing from their motherland Pakistan just for the safety of their honor, lives and beliefs. Sana’s daddy asked me, “When will our daughter be returned to us.” And I ask you, Sir, “When Sana will be returned to her daddy?” With best regards. PROF. ANJUM JAMES PAUL CHAIRMAN Pakistan Minorities Teachers' Association (PMTA)
