Lahore: February 24, 2016. (PCP) Mehwish Shoukat aged 22, a Christian by birth and resident of Mozang Lahore, forcedly convert in to Islam by Muslim friend and forced to get married. Mehwish is an elder daughter of her poor parents among three other siblings’ one sister and two brothers. Parents did hard work to grow up children and managed their studies in private English Schools in Lahore. Marriam aged about 45 and Shaoukat Masih aged 48, do domestic work in the locality and hardly manage expenses of food and studies of children. Since last two years Shaoukat Masih becomes patient of diabetics, and cannot work hard, therefore the family suffers. Mehwish has completed her intermediate studies and it was her desire to studies higher but looking towards the family circumstances she decided to do some job to help her parents. She started part time work at a private clinic/hospital in Mozang Lahore as a receptionist in July 2015 for Rs.10,000 Rupees (US$100) per month. Mehwish behaved politely to all attendees of clinic as her job needs. She was also good to her colleagues at the work place. On Monday February 08, 2016, Marriam Bibi w/o Shaoukat Masih approached CTS along with her daughter Mehwish aged 22, and requested to provide a safe place to live as Mehwish received life threats and feel unsecure at her parents place. Talking to Katherine Sapna CTS Director Mehwish stated; it was about two months of her job at clinic, when she was proposed for friendship by a Muslim colleague named Mohammad Hassan. Hassan started to take more and more interest in Mehvish when he knews that she is a Christian. Mehvish tried to keep focusing on her work, and asked Hassan categorically that he may not induce her for friendship. But Hassan made his routine to pass compliments for Mehvish which she has to endure for the sake of her earning. She tried hard to make Hassan understand about religious differences and asked him that he should avoid any emotionally attachment but all in vain. He started to follow her on the way to home just to know her whereabouts. Mehvish became frightened and requested him to stop these kinds of advances. Later few weeks, Hassan proposed Mehvish for marriage, as she was not willing to be in friendship or to get married to a Muslim man. Refusal of Mehwish was unacceptable to Hassan. He kidnapped her on the way to home and took her to the Mosque to get marriage according to Muslim ritual. The Mulla asked Hassan that Mehwish must embrace Islam before Muslim marriage. Hassan asked Mehwish to recite Holy Kalma (a special verdict which is recited by the people for converion). Mehwish was totally disagree she requested not only Hassan but also Mulla to let her go as she was not willing to embrace Islam as well as to get marry Hassan. Meanwhile Hassan forced her to embrace Islam on the gun point and asked her to sign a blank paper. He also took her thumb impression on the blank stamp paper and forced her to give statement in the court that she willingly signed stamp papers to embrace Islam and get married to Hussan and she is not kidnapped. After a week Mehwish got chance to escape from the custody of Muslims and contacted her parents. Her parents were afraid to keep her at home therefore they requested relative to keep her in places. The poor relatives are afraid to provide her accommodation as they know that what can do the aggressive Muslims when they came to know about Mehwish whereabouts. Since the time Mehwish Shaoukat was provided safe accommodated at CTS sanctuary house. On her request CTS has filed a suit for dissolution of marriage against the so called Muslim Husband as she do not want that he claim for her as wife. CTS has arranged a lawyer to file her case in the court soon.
