New York: March 20, 2016. (PCP) The International Community Care Foundation ICCF Director Mr. Tariq Javed in a press release have announced to hold demonstration at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza at the United Nations-April 5, 2016. International Community Care Foundation (ICCF) with the collaboration of Christian churches, Hope for the Persecuted Christians, Inc., have also appealed to the United Nations to help the Persecuted Christians in Pakistan. Press Release says “There are 4,500 Pakistani Christian Asylum seekers in Thailand. These asylum seekers were forced to leave Pakistan after being persecuted in Pakistan. The Thailand government has not signed the 1951 Refugee Convention or its 1967 Protocol, and Thailand has no formal national asylum framework. These refugees escape to Thailand on visitor visas and when their visas expire they are not renewed. The people are under a constant risk of arrest. Those arrested are taken to the Immigration Detention Center (IDC) in Thailand. Now 500 people are incarcerated in the IDC. So far, 11 people have died. One woman was pregnant, the baby died in her womb. Because no help was given her, she also died, and it took 5 days after her death to release the body” It is difficult to extend the visas. After expiration of visas no one is safe--even in their own room. The Thailand police and immigration police raid the places where the asylum seekers stay and stop them on the roads. Asylum seekers are not allowed to work making housing, food and medical attention difficult to acquire. Also, children cannot go to school. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) takes a minimum of 4 years to provide an interview, and then another year for the resettlement result. For those arrested, the conditions in the IDC are deplorable. There are currently about 175 people in one room. They receive one meal a day of cucumber soup and boiled rice. There are pregnant women, children, elderly and many with health problems such as diabetes, asthma, heart problems etc. Rarely is there a visit from a physician. Detention center employees often take the food that is occasionally brought to the asylum seeker by volunteers. The bail to release a person is $1,500 and even if paid, it can still take many months for them to be released. Therefore, this situation must stop! Please, welcoming countries are needed for these asylum seekers now—not years from now when more people will die. I appeal to the UN. Why are many Muslims settled, but few Christians seem to be settled. ICCF’S URGENT REQUESTS TO THE UNITED NATIONS US Government, Thailand Government, United Nations: We appeal for the immediate release of all Pakistani Christians from the Thailand IDC’s without bail money and without a return to Pakistan, especially the women, children and the infirm; and no more arrests. UN & USA should immediately intervene and settle all Pakistani Christians into welcoming countries.
