Karachi: May 21, 2016. (By Ayyaz Gulzar) Last Saturday on the feast day of St. Matthias, the apostle Jesus Youth (JY) Pakistan organized recommitment day for its members in Karachi.
Recommitment day’s program commenced with the Holy Mass in St. Joseph’s Convent Chapel, Saddar. Very Rev.Fr.Saleh Diego, vicar general of Archdiocese of Karachi concelebrated the Holy Mass with six Priests including Fr.Nazar Nawab, Fr.Benjamin Shahzad, Fr.Noman Arif (Spiritual director JY Pakistan Karachi), Fr.Shahzad Arshad, Fr.Pervez Khalid and Fr.Javed Kashif OFM Cap.
Addressing the Jesus Youth Pakistan members and attendees Fr. Saleh Diego said: “It’s a joyful moment to see many young Catholics taking commitment to serve the Church. On behalf of Archbishop Joseph Coutts, Archbishop of Karachi and Priests in Archdiocese of Karachi, I congratulate you all for presenting yourself to be at the service of the Church”.
I appreciate the role of Jesus Youth in Church; with huge dedication, obedience and commitment they are not only serving the Church in Archdiocese of Karachi but also in various countries too.
Jesus Youth’s great zeal and enthuse for missionary works are making them different from others. And the way they helping our people specially youth to have an encounter with Christ is impressive, Fr. Saleh Diego added.
Emphasizing on the feast of St. Matthias, the apostle Fr. Saleh urged Jesus Youth Pakistan Karachi’s members to serve the Church as apostles of modern time.
During the Holy Mass, Jesus Youth members are called for their examination before reciting the pledge. Fr. Saleh Diego led the ceremony and asked questions to the candidates regarding to be faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and Jesus Youth’s Charism and spirituality. Fr.Noman Arif lit the recommitment day ceremony’s candle and helped candidates to light their candles from it.
Examination of the candidates was followed with renewal of vows by the Jesus Youth Committed members. Twenty five (25) of the Jesus Youth Pakistan members’ recited the pledge to recommit themselves at the service of the Church and community. Fr.Noman Arif and Mr.Ayyaz Gulzar (JY Pakistan’s coordinator) witnessed the recommitment pledge signing at the altar.
Following the recommitment ceremony, another twenty nine (29) Jesus Youth members took commitment for the first time. Before signing of their pledges Fr.Saleh Diego laid his hands on the heads of the candidates for blessing and presented Jesus Youth prayer cards to them as a symbol of unity with the Jesus Youth members globally. Fr.Noman Arif and Ms.Shabnam John (Coordinator, JY Pakistan Karachi) witnessed the signing of the pledges at the altar.
After the Eucharistic celebration, all the priests and guests were welcomed and as a symbol of love Jesus Youth members garlanded all the priests. On behalf of Jesus Youth Pakistan Fr. Noman Arif and Mr.Ayyaz Gulzar along with other members of the movement garlanded Fr.Saleh Diego and presented him an ajrak and a shield.
On behalf of Jesus Youth Pakistan, Mr.Ayyaz Gulzar thanked Fr.Saleh Diego for being the Main celebrant for Eucharistic celebration and all of his cooperation and support, Fr.Nazar Nawab, Fr.Benjamin Shahzad, Fr.Pervez Khalid, Fr.Shahzad Arshad, Fr.Javed Kashif for being present as concelebrants and for their continuous support and appreciation for Jesus Youth. He also thanked Daughters of the Cross Nuns especially Sr.Angelina FC and her staff for providing place in St. Joseph’s convent, Fr. Mario Rodrigues for all of his cooperation to manage things nicely during Holy Mass, Steffen pervaiz for recording the event, Jesus Youth Team and all the members, friends and well-wishers for making this event successful.
