Demo against arrest of Human Rights Defender Veeru Kohli by Husri Police

HYDERABAD: July 24, 2016. (By Abbas Kassar) Hari Mazdoor Tanzeem and Green Rural Development Organization held a protest demonstration in front of press club here against arrest of international award holder on human rights Ms. Veero Kolhi along with her husband Tulsi from her home by Husri. The protest was led by dr. Ghulam Hyder Malookhani and Shahida Khaskheli. Talking in front of press club Dr. Malookhani said only crime of Veeru Kolhi was that she had contested election on PS.50 against former Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. After than she was being given threats. On this occasion Rani Kolhi told that at around 12 midnight she heard screams of Veeru who was being dragged by Husri police along with her husband Tulsi out of their home. She said she saw the policemen in uniforms were beating both. She said on her cries police also beat her (Rani) and her infant daughter. Shahida Khaskheli told that Veeru always raises voice against atrocities of police and Waderas on oppressed peasants.She said earlier her her husband, brother in law and son were involved in false case and sent to jail. She said she had raised voice against the vice dens and alcohol breeders in the area under police protection. She had also asked policemen to refrain from intruding homes of poor peasants at night time. This infuriated police which arrested her.They demanded from Chief Justice and IG Sindh to order release of Veeru and hold inquiry in the matter to provide justice to human rights defenders. Meanwhile Husri police produced Veeru in court of judicial magistrate No.10 which sent him on 14 days remand to women police station.
