Bishop Hyderabad diocese urges Youth to get rooted in the Word of God

Hyderabad: July 28, 2016. (Ayyaz Gulzar) Diocesan Youth Commission of Catholic Diocese of Hyderabad organized three days “Bible Course” for its members from July 12 – 14, 2016 in St. Mary’s Convent girls’ high School, Hyderabad. For the program entitled “God’s Word in Human Language” Archbishop (Emeritus) Evarist Pinto, a well-known scholar of the scriptures was invited as the main resource person in the program. Bible Course commenced on the 12 July’s morning with the “enthronement of the Holy Bible” followed with first sessions by Archbishop Evarist Pinto. In which Archbishop Pinto highlighted the importance of meditation on the Word of God and guided youth to meditate. After the guided meditation Archbishop spoke on the believers approach to the Holy Bible and helped youth to overcome the difficulties in reading the bible and explained the basic notions of the Holy Bible. First half of the day ended at the explanation of the account of creation, religious truths and mode of expression in the first three chapters of the book of Genesis. The second half of the day began with the session entitled “Adventurous Love” by Mr. Ayyaz Gulzar, coordinator of Jesus Youth Pakistan. In which he highlighted the Love of God for its creation especially for the human beings. He also informed attendees about Charism and Spirituality of the Jesus Youth. The day ended with the wonderful session on Inspiration of the Bible and ‘Lectio Divina’ by Archbishop Pinto in which Archbishop explained the movements of this divine reading and helped youth to practice it. Day two began with the review of the sessions held on the first day. After the review Archbishop Evarist Pinto lead youth in the session on meditation followed with an explanation on the “the prophets of the Israel, Prophetic experience, the message of the prophets and the special tasks of the prophets” followed with the description of the four Gospels. The second half of the day commenced with a session “Faith walk” by Mr. Ayyaz Gulzar. During this session Mr. Ayyaz Gulzar helped youth to respond to the Adventurous Love of God in light of formation plan of Jesus Youth Pakistan. Last session of the day was on the Canon of the Bible and brief description about Hermeneutics followed with Lectio Divina; Archbishop Pinto led youth in this session. On the third day after the brief review of second day activities Archbishop Pinto commenced sessions with mediation followed with the explanation on the Pauline epistles and the book of revelations in which Archbishop briefly explained the historical background, the apocalyptic genre, meaning of the different symbols and the intention of the author of the book of revelations. In second half of the day Mr. Ayyaz Gulzar conducted a session entitled “I Witness” and helped Youth to realize importance of their presence in Church and how to be at the service of the Church. He also encouraged Youth to focus on their personal formation to be vibrant in the missionary works in their parishes. Bible Course ended with the Holy Mass. Archbishop Evarist Pinto concelebrated the Holy Mass with Bishop Samson Shukardin OFM, Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Hyderabad. 60 young Catholics attended this Bible Course, at the end of the programs attendees were awarded with the certificates. Bishop Samson Shukardin OFM in his closing remarks urged Youth to get rooted in the word of God. He said: I am thankful to Archbishop (Emeritus) Evarist Pinto for accepting my invitation; His Grace Evarist Pinto’s presence in our diocese in a huge blessing for us and specially for all those who spent three days with him to learn about the Word of God. He also thanked Mr. Ayyaz Gulzar, Mr. Paul Mohan (director of Diocesan Youth Commission) and his team, all the parish priests, catechists, School’s principal and staff and all the attendees for making this program successful.
