Karachi: October 8, 2016. (PCP) Pakistan Christian Congress PCC in a press note here today has strongly condemned Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority PEMRA on issuing notices to 11 Christian TV Channels to stop transmissions. When Pakistan Christian Post contacted Gawahi TV today which is included in list of 11 Christian TV stations and asked about its license and registration with PEMRA; “We are duly licensed as satellite TV channel with PEMRA but we have not received such notice to stop our transmission nor any official have contacted them. We have seen such notice circulating in Social media only” told Gawahi TV management from its offices in Karachi. When Pakistan Christian Post contacted PEMRA Chairman Mr. Absar Alam office in Islamabad to enquire about notices to 11 Christian TV Channels, “No one was picking phone to respond”. There is list of 91 licensed TV Channels on website of PEMRA in categories on News, Entertainment, Education, Health, Languages and Religion; there are 8 Muslim Religion Channels in this list but none of Christian Religion Channel is included in it. 11 Christian Channels which PEMRA orders to remove from cable network are: Isaac TV, Gawahi TV, Barkat TV, Zindagi TV, God Bless TV, Praise TV, Shine TV, Jesus TV, Healing TV, Catholic TV and Khushkhabri TV. Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC said that he have sent an appeal to Chairman PEMRA to provide necessary assistance to Christian TV Channels to provide required information for registration and licensing to enter in system instead of harassing by issuing notices. “Most of these 11 Christian Channels have not enough funds but they are working with missionary spirit to spread Word of Lord among poor Christian worshipers that’s why they are depending on Internet and Cable sectors while Muslim Channels are marketing with big budgets” said Nazir Bhatti The PEMRA notice issued on September 23, 2016 states to 11 Christian Channels reads as “It has been reported that following illegal and unlicensed Satellite TV Channels are being aired on Cable TV Networks across the country” which have spread anger and fear among Pakistani Christians. PCC Chief expressed concern on denying Satellite TV license to him for “PCP News” submitted in 2010 and urged Chairman PEMRA to put up PCP News Channel file and grant license that Christian have their own 24/7 News Channel in Pakistan.
