PESHAWAR: Fear and uncertainty continue to spread among Pakistan’s Christian minority following the tragic death of an 18-year-old Chris
Karachi: October 19, 2016. (PCP) Patron-in-chief of Pakistan Hindu Council and Member of the National Assembly, Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani has said that alcohol is strictly forbidden in all religions and according to the teachings of Hinduism, decision maker leaders and other higher-ups are strictly prohibited to drink under any circumstances. He stated this while commenting on the Sindh High Court orders to shutdown of liquor shops across the province.
Dr Ramesh Vankwani urged that the alcohol business is against Hinduism, and Pakistan Hindu Council demands to ban it across the country. While giving references from Hindu’s Holy Book ‘Shrimad Baghwat Piran’, he said that according to the teachings of Askand -2, Adhya -17, Shilok-38, 39, 40, 41, alcohol is strictly forbidden.
“Sale, production, importation and transportation of alcoholic beverages in Pakistan occurred under the banner of minorities, which is strongly offensive and insulting,” he said. “I also tried to present a bill in the parliament last year to ban the sale of alcohol in the name of minorities”, he added.
While commenting on the court’s orders about the sale of alcohol beverages to minorities on their festivals and celebratory events only, prominent Hindu lawmaker urged that it should be completely banned throughout the year. He expressed his willingness to appear before the Sindh High Court for presenting the view point on behalf of Pakistani Hindu community.
He also expressed sorrow on the loss of dozens of lives every year due to drinking of tainted liquor on the occasions of holy festivals.
