SCP Justice who refused to hear Asia Bibi appeal resigns

Islamabad: October 23, 2016. (PCP) Supreme Court of Pakistan Judge Iqbal Hameedur Rehman resigned today in a handwritten letter addressed to President of Pakistan without stating any specific reasons on his resignation. Mr. Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman came in limelight when he refused to hear Asia Bibi appeal against her death sentence on accusation of blasphemy from lower court on October 13, 2016. Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman was member of 3 Judges Bench who was formed by Chief Justice of Pakistan to hear Asia Bibi appeal. The Registrar of Supreme Court of Pakistan announces different Benches of Supreme Court of Pakistan on approval of Chief Justice one week prior of hearing of pending cases as normal rules and procedures of SCP. It was surprising that Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman was aware that he is member of the Bench who will hear Asia Bibi case but before scheduled hearing date he not stepped up to inform Chief Justice that he may be not included in Asia Bibi appeal hearing Bench but announced his consent not to hear Asia Bibi appeal on hearing date proceedings which forced postpone until new Bench is not constituted. It also in section of press that Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman has resigned after allegations of 74 illegal appointments in Islamabad High Court IHC and petition was filed against him.
