Jhelum: October 29, 2016. (PCP) The Punjab government fails to make any arrest or to complete investigation against culprits who sell homemade toxic liquor called “Moonshine” which killed 11 Christian youth who were celebrating party of wedding in Christian colony.
The victims of Moonshine toxic liquor were mostly local youth and guests coming from other cities to participate in wedding.
One day earlier Sindh High Court have imposed complete ban on licensed liquor in Sindh province and order seal all outlets in province which sell liquor manufactured in registered breweries. The Chief Justice issued orders of banning distribution of liquor in province claiming that religious minorities have not such buying power which is sold. Moreover, the consumption of liquor on religion ground is questionable as any religion not permits to use alcohol in religious rituals according to court.
Christian and Hindus are poor communities in Pakistan who cannot buy expensive liquor from outlets of government licensed stores.
ZA Bhutto who was Prime Minister of Pakistan and leader of Pakistan Peoples Party banned distribution of alcohol in Pakistan to minimize anger of Islamic Parties who were agitating to overthrow his government in 1977 but dictator General Zia Ul Haq who imposed complete Sharia Law in Pakistan ordered to issue permits to individuals of religious minorities to open back door for Muslims to consume alcohol and to safe alcohol industry owned with shares of establishment tools.
Incidents of deaths by toxic homemade liquor are very common in Pakistan and total of deaths rises up to dozens in many cases but government fails to arrest culprits because business of Moonshine liquor is run under supervision of area law enforcement agencies in Pakistan.
Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC has demanded immediate arrest of culprits who selling toxic liquor in Jhelum city which killed 11 Christian youth.
“It is very surprising that police is blaming Christians for producing this toxic liquor which killed 11 Christians to safe Muslim culprits who are behind manufacturing “Moonshine” in Jhelum” added Nazir Bhatti
