Hyderabad: February 16, 2017. (Teresa D’Souza) A workshop on Teaching Catechesis through activities was conducted on 28th of January 2017 at Joti Centre, Mirpurkhas. Quality education involves an appreciation of the rich tapestry of cultures, religions and wisdoms. A Catholic school celebrates liturgy which leads to the empowerment of staff and students on the whole. This training workshop led the teachers to reflect and seek to integrate their personal and professional dimensions of being a Catechism teacher. Mr. Ayyaz Gulzar (Coordinator, Jesus Youth), the resource person successfully created compassionate and listening hearts to further inspire their students in the classroom. Each session was run under a theme. The first theme Love beyond borders was a personal reflection on Who am I?. The action Hymn Yes Lord with its catchy tune was a hit among all present there. The theme Jesus is my…….. ? Camp up next with a number of activity worksheets and learning the names of the books of the New Testament through a song. The song was translated into Urdu and Parkari and sung on the same tune. The adaptation of the activities in Parkari language was a great achievement by the facilitator. The next theme, Telling story of Jesus in our context guided the teachers to help children tell stories of Jesus in their own situation along with their own testimonies. The touching part of the program was the Adoration led by Mr. Ayyaz Gulzar, Daniel Bashir and Roger Joshua directed the full group of participants to praise and worship which could also be a vital part of teaching Catechesis in schools. The Adorations was followed by testimonies. The Workshop concluded with a pledge from the attendees to implement the activities in the classroom and a high hope that Eucharistic Adoration will become a regular part of the senior student’s activity in all the Catholic Middle and High schools of Hyderabad Diocese The strategies offered by Mr. Ayyaz Gulzar along with his team members, Daniel and Roger was a big contribution to lead our Catechism teachers on the path of spiritually renewal.
