Lahore: April 7, 2017. (PCP) National Commission for Inter-religious Dialogue and Ecumenism (Catholic Bishops’ conference - Pakistan) is striving to promote Peace and Harmony in society under the Chairmanship of His Grace Archbishop Sebastian Francis Shaw OFM. The commission is comprised of religious leaders of all the religions prevailing in Pakistan. They work together for the promotion of Peace and harmony. In this connection an Olive Trees Plantation Campaign is being launched in all the Dioceses of Pakistan. The olive tree is said to be an ever green tree. The olive branch has often been a symbol of abundance, glory and peace. Over the years, the olive tree has been the symbol of peace, wisdom, glory, fertility, power and purity. The olive tree itself, as well as olive oil and olives, play an important role in the Bible. The dove brought an olive branch to the prophet Noah to show that the flood was over. The olive tree and olive oil are mentioned seven times in the Holy Quran and the olive is praised as a precious fruit. Olive tree and olive-oil’s health benefits have been propounded in Prophetic medicine. The main objectives of The plantation and cultivation of Olive Tree symbolizes Purity and Serenity in a house or institution. In this regard during the Olive Trees Plantation campaign the Saplings/ young Tress will be planted in different Islamic Seminaries where students study and learn to be a peaceful human. So that they may bring out the innate desire of each human to live in Peace. To promote peace and harmony especially among children. Its purpose also will be to cultivate a habit to admire the peace promoting activities. Then to educate the children to be the peace builders. Through this campaign the following goals are expected to be achieved. As the olive trees grow in day by day in the courtyard of a seminary, same way the peace loving attitude and relations are expected to grow among the residents. It is also expected to create a more greener Pakistan and to cultivate a sense of Peace making among the children of Islamic Seminaries. May Peace prevail in Pakistan. Olive Tress Plantation Campaign will be carried out in all the Dioceses of Pakistan: In this regard, the director of the NCIDE of each diocese will visit 5 Islamic seminaries (Madrasa) in the diocese with his team and plant 10 trees in the garden of these seminaries, under the chairmanship of the Archbishop / Bishop will be greatly appreciated.
