Rawalpindi: October 9, 2017. (PCP) According to Medial Cell Minority Rights Watch reports, a teenage Christian girl was raped by the influential Muslim man Rawalpindi, when the girl was taken to Khanna Police Station; police did not register a rape case as the culprit was influential Muslim man. Instead police send Sumaira and her parents off. Safdar Choudhry, Human Rights Defender got involved and lodged First Information Report 33/17 on February 18, 2017 against Ms. Yasim alias Sana and her husband Qamar Abbas, as Qamar took her to an unknown place where Sumaira was sexually assaulted. Both husband and wife were sent to judicial lockup. Thou the couple have not nominated the actual culprit for money. Yasim and Qamar applied for bail at High Court Islamabad, however, Safdar Choudhry came to know and appeared before the court with his Defender lawyer said that Sumaira has gone missing, hence their bail was with withheld. Later the Police produced the girl in the court with her statement u/s 164 and her marriage and conversion certificate. She had married her brother-in-law Saimon Aneel who accepted Islam. Therefore the bail was awarded by the High Court Islamabad. Sumaira was kidnapped from her parents’ residence and the missing complaint was launched on August 17, 2017 with First Information Report No. 212/17 at Khanna Police Station against unknown. The complaint was launched with due delay to cover up the story by the police. Sub Inspector Muhammad Abbas became complainant and launched an FIR 220/17 against Sumaira and her mother for misinformation to the police. She changed her statement that she was not raped but ran with her brother-in-law. In the daily dairy (zimni) Muhammad Abbas also nominated Safdar Choudhry who was defending Sumaira rape case u/s 109. Safdar was sent to judicial lockup. A bail petition was filed on behalf of Safdar at the court of Judicial Magistrate that has been rejected by the court. We have planned to file bail petition in the Session Court Islamabad. The influential Muslim rapist and Muhammad Abbas are playing tactics for money and involved Saimon and alleged Safdar as he was defending the case. Safdar is an active member of Minority Rights Watch. The influential Muslim rapist and Muhammad Abbas are playing tactics for money and involved Saimon and alleged Safdar as he was defending the case. Safdar is an active member of Minority Rights Watch. In continuation, and update on this case, today the bail petition of Safdar at the court of District and Session Court Rawalpindi has been rejected. We had strong hoped that human right defender shall be awarded justice at the Session Court but had disappointment. We are ready to knock at the door of High Court Rawalpindi to bail out Safdar. I, hereby, suggest the authorities to protect Human Right Activist who serve on purpose and develop a policy on HR Defenders. Instead, the state must work on sensitizing society to encourage a pluralistic and egalitarian atmosphere where the rights of minorities are equally protected. It is imperative for a strengthened Pakistan that all its citizens, regardless of caste, colour, ethnicity, political or religious association, be treated on equal footing by the state.
