Capuchin Friars in Pakistan Pray for The Elimination of Coronavirus

Lahore: (Pervez Yousaf) The community of Mariam Siddeeqa Capuchin Custody Pakistan organized Holy Hour and offered Prayers for the eradication of deadly coronavirus pandemic.  The prayer gathering was attended by a number of Capuchin friars serving in the Mariam Siddeeqa Capuchin Custody Pakistan (MSCCP).  This prayer gathering was led by Rev. Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap, Custous of the MSCCP. And held at St. Francis Friary, Kot Lakhpat Lahore.

 All over Pakistan several restrictions were imposed, included closing of the outpatient departments of hospitals, complete bans on intra-city, inter-district and inter-province public transport as well as gatherings in public places. The last safety measure taken by the government has been total lockdown, following the example of China and Italy, which is helping indeed to control the spread of the Coronavirus in Pakistan. Three new recoveries were announced as well as the eighth death in the country. The number of positive cases increased to 1057.

All the participants offered prayers for the people of entire world and specially for Italy, Iran, Spain, Belgium, USA, UK and China where number of deceased and infected people are very high due to the attack of this monstrous virus.  The Capuchin Friars expressed their deep concern and solidarity with the families and relatives of all the deceased people.  They also offered prayers for the doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and administrations of all the hospitals around the world that may Almighty God keep them safe in carrying out their services for the ailing people.

On this occasion the friars remembered and offered prayers for two deceased friars; one from Venezia Province, Br. Giampiero Vignandel, who died in Trento where he ministered in particular at a local soup kitchen for the poor; another was Br. Luis Gabriel Carillo, of the Custody of Ecuador, who died in Madrid where he was attending the course on Franciscanism.

Expressing his concerned about the crucial situation around the world Fr. Francis Nadeem appealed families of the Christian faithful in Pakistan to continue prayers and observe Holy Hour and Novena in their homes. Fr. Francis Nadeem assured that we all will continue holding such prayer gatherings till the end of this virus. He urged all the Capuchin friars to continue praying for the protection of entire humanity.

At the same time another prayer gathering of the Capuchin Friars was held at the Capuchin Formation House in Karachi which was led by Rev. Fr. Azam Siddique OFM Cap.

Shahzad Khokhar OFM Cap, and Fr. Clarence Hayat OFM Cap.
