Protect the rights of children and let us urge government to enforce Children Rights Act: By Jawad Mazhar (ROD)
Sargodha, Pakistan, Nov 24, 2007. Rays of Development Organization (ROD) observed International Day of Children with the motto "Save the Children and secure the future", on Nov 24th, at St Patrick's High School Gillwala, Sargodha. Coordinator Child Rights Committee (CRC) SPARC and Advocacy Network Sargodha, Advocate Shahid Nazir Malik was Chief Guest at the occasion and Mr and Mrs Chaudhary Mushtaq Gill were the honorary guests. Students of St Patrick's High School presented songs, poems and dramas depicting the problems and every day needs of the Children.
People from different walks of life, parents of the students of St Patrick's High School Gillwala and rights activists from different civil society organization participated in the ceremony. The students of St Patrick's High School took an active part in the ceremony and performed in the dramas, songs and poems with great enthusiasm. These songs, poems and dramas portrayed the problems of poor children faced by them in their families and getting education. The child actors beautifully conveyed the message to the audience about child labor, child abuse and other childhood problems.
Chief Guest of the ceremony Advocate Shahid Nazir Malik (Coordinator CRC-SPARC and Advocacy Network, Sargodha) lauded the performance of the children and looked up to the endeavors of Rays of Development Organization (ROD) regarding the rights of Children. He also said that all the civil society organization should forge unity in their ranks to pressurize the government to enforce the Child Rights Protection Act in the country.
Member of District government Sargodha, Chaudhary Mushtaq Gill said that Children are our future and to secure our future we should save our Children today. He emphasized on the need of such programs to impart awareness about the child rights in the society. Gill also extolled the efforts of ROD about the protection of Child rights in the society.
Addressing on the occasion Chairman of Rays of Development Organization (ROD), Ferhan Mazher said that these dramas played by the Children are not fiction; instead they are based on the bitter facts and real life hindrances that bar children from getting education. He appealed to all the kind hearted to help such students. Mazher maintained that Civil Society can play an effective and vital role in eradicating the Child labor, child abuse and other problems related to the children. He also thanked all donors and urged international and national donors to extend their hands and help ROD to help these deserving students and other poor children who want to get education, but they can't due to their financial family problems.
At the end of the program Principal of St Patrick's High School, Fr Azad Nayyer said that education is only solution of the problems of these poor children and their families. In his address he said that these children love education and they want to get education but there are countless problems that hold them black from proper schooling.
Rays of Development Organization distributed juices among the children as a token of love and care for them.
