London: The British Asian Christian Association (BACA) continues to provide unwavering support to the orphaned children of Shama and Shehzad, the young Christian couple who were tragically tortured and burned alive in 2014 after false accusations of blasphemy. This heinous act left their children orphaned and in need of care, which BACA has steadfastly provided over the years.
During a visit in November 2024 to celebrate Sonia’s 13th birthday, the children expressed a heartfelt request to BACA: they wished for winter clothing and shoes for Christmas. True to its commitment, BACA ensured their wish became a reality.
On December 23rd, a BACA officer called Mukhtar Masih, the 60-year-old grandfather and guardian of the children, to inform him that the children would be taken Christmas shopping. Overjoyed by the news, Mukhtar Masih expressed his gratitude:
“I am thankful to God for the BACA that always helps the children and meets their needs.”
That same day, BACA officers accompanied Suleman (16), Sonia (13), Poonam (10), and Mukhtar Masih to a local shopping mall. Maria Bibi, a trusted family friend, also joined to assist Sonia and Poonam in selecting their clothes.
The children explored various shops and markets, carefully choosing winter clothing that suited their preferences. The experience not only brought smiles to their faces but also empowered them with decision-making skills essential for navigating life’s challenges. Suleman, the eldest sibling, shared his appreciation:
“I am thankful to BACA for giving me clothes for Christmas. It means so much to us to feel cared for and remembered during this special season.”
The shopping trip was a heartwarming reminder of the joy and hope that acts of kindness can bring, especially during the festive season. By fulfilling the children’s Christmas wish, BACA reaffirmed its dedication to supporting these vulnerable children, ensuring they feel loved, valued, and cared for despite their tragic loss.
BACA remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting the family, not only by meeting their material needs but also by nurturing their emotional and spiritual well-being. This Christmas, the heartfelt smiles of Suleman, Sonia, and Poonam were a powerful reminder of how compassion and generosity can transform lives.
You can help us continue to improve the lives of these orphans by donating (here). Your support enables us to fund a live-in nanny who provides the children with a loving maternal presence, ensuring they feel cared for and supported. In addition, we assist with healthcare expenses, some living costs, and the repair and maintenance of their home, generously provided by a local church.
Together, we can bring hope and stability to these children as they rebuild their lives.
Juliet Chowdhry, Trustee of the British Asian Christian Association, shared her thoughts:
“It brings me immense joy to see the happiness on the faces of these children, knowing we’ve been part of their journey. For a family that has endured such a brutal loss, receiving new clothes was a cherished gift, reminding them they are not forgotten.
The children are growing into remarkable young individuals, excelling in their studies and nurturing a deep commitment to their faith. Their dedication to church and spiritual growth is truly inspiring, and I have no doubt they will one day become strong ambassadors for the Christian community. Their resilience and determination are a testament to their strength and the hope we continue to instill in them.”
