Punjab, Pakistan: A heartbreaking case of religious discrimination has emerged in Pakistan, sparking outrage after a video surfaced showing a young Christian child and his father recounting an incident where the child was beaten by his Muslim female teacher for drinking water from her glass. 

In the emotional video statement, the approximately five-year-old boy and his father explain how the child—innocently drinking water during the current heatwave—was scolded, slapped, and verbally abused. The teacher reportedly used the slur "Issai Chura", a derogatory term used to demean Christians in parts of Pakistan. 

The video has been widely circulated among Christian communities and human rights groups, raising alarm over what they describe as a disturbing rise in religious hatred and anti-Christian sentiment across the country. 

Pastor Imran Amanat, head of LEAD Ministries Pakistan, condemned the attack. “This child did nothing wrong. He was thirsty—like any human being in this extreme heat. But he was punished simply for being a Christian. We are witnessing more cases like this where Christians are not allowed to drink from public sources or share utensils with Muslims,” he said. 

“We condemn this Christian-phobia that continues to grow in our society. The physical and emotional damage caused to Christian children and families is serious and must not be ignored,” Pastor Amanat added. 

LEAD Ministries Pakistan has been documenting a troubling increase in cases of discrimination and abuse against Christians, particularly in schools, workplaces, and rural communities. 

Sardar Mushtaq Gill, founder of LEAD Ministries and a human rights lawyer, also responded to the video, urging action from authorities. “This is a clear example of religious hatred being taught and practiced in places that should be safe for all children. We ask Christian believers around the world to pray for those suffering for their faith in Pakistan. We also call on the government to take firm legal action against those spreading intolerance.” 

With temperatures soaring in many parts of Pakistan, the denial of water—a basic human right—based on faith is drawing sharp criticism from human rights organizations. The incident has renewed calls for stronger protections for religious minorities, as well as interfaith education reforms in schools. 

As the video continues to gain attention, Christian leaders and activists are urging Pakistani authorities to investigate the matter fully and hold those responsible accountable, while reaffirming the constitutional rights of all Pakistani citizens, regardless of religion.
