Narowal, Punjab: A devastating roof collapse in Narowal destroyed the home of Nasir Masih’s family, tragically killing a young child and injuring several others. 

This family of 16, already carrying the weight of multiple losses, is now displaced—struggling with grief, injuries, and severe financial hardship. 

BACA has pledged to rebuild their home with stronger foundations and safer design, while also providing urgent medical care and emotional support for the children. Demolition of the flood-ravaged structure has already begun to make the site safe for reconstruction.

The British Asian Christian Association (BACA) recently revisited the family of Nasir Masih in Christian Colony, Narowal, bringing news of hope amid tragedy. The family, devastated by the collapse of their home on 27th August, received assurance that their fallen house will be rebuilt—a gesture that has strengthened their faith and brought immense relief. 

A Family Shattered 

Nasir Masih shared the harrowing details of life after the disaster. Their 1,089-square-foot house, originally built by his parents, sheltered three large families: his own, and those of his deceased brothers, Kashif Masih and Qaisar Masih. In total, 16 family members lived under the small two-storied structure. 

Tragically, Kashif and his wife Kalsoom died years ago, leaving their three sons in Nasir’s care. Qaisar Masih, who died four months ago, left behind his wife Hina (30) and five children: Minahil (13), Soraj (11), Aryan (8), Saim (6), and Anaya (2). Anaya lost her life in the roof collapse, while the others sustained serious injuries. (Read more here)  

Nasir works as a sweeper, and his wife Arooj Bibi, who worked as a maid, lost her job after the tragedy. She shared the emotional strain of caring for her injured children: 

“Abeel doesn’t want me to leave him for a second. I must be with him all the time.” 

Their eldest daughter, Shanaya (13), suffered a fractured leg and head injury, requiring a CT scan at Children’s Hospital Lahore. She is recovering and eagerly awaiting her return to fifth grade.

Currently, the displaced family lives in small sitting rooms offered by neighbours, while Hina Bibi and her children also rely on neighbourly support. Despite these hardships, the family’s faith remains steadfast.

What Caused the Collapse? 

The tragedy was the result of an unstable structure. The house, built 30 years ago with mud and wooden beams, had been gradually expanded as the family grew. The additional story on the weak roof could not bear the load, leading to the collapse of the upper story onto the ground floor. 

The relentless downpour led to the collapse of a family’s roof. 

BACA has reassured the family that reconstruction will begin soon, providing a safer and stronger home for the survivors.

The loss of a home and a child is unimaginable, yet through support, the family can begin to rebuild their lives. BACA is committed to providing shelter, medical care, and emotional support to Nasir Masih’s family, ensuring they regain security and hope. 

Demolition of the collapsed house of Nasir Masih could not commence before 12th September due to anticipated rainfall. The structure has now been cleared, and foundation work is expected to begin this week. 

Nasir’s home has been demolished by BACA to ensure safety and pave the way for a new build.
