Brick kiln activists take out rally; Kamran Michael announces vacancies in ministry

MULTAN: September 1, 2008. (Khadijah Shah reports) The brick kiln workers staged a rally in favour of their demands organized by the JPCP a Human rights body of Catholic Church nd a large number of laborers participated in it. Over 100 laborers assembled at Chungi NO. 9 and marched towards Chowk Kachehri where they staged a protest demonstration. The protestors were holding placards and banners; they carried out sloganeering against the government and reminded the Prime minister of his promises. They demanded of the government to carry out registration of brick kiln workers and issue social security cards to them. They further asked the government to enforce Laws for removal of bonded laborer, ensure payment of wages in line with government Laws and make arrangements for the education of their children. Minister for Human Rights and Minority affairs Punjab, Kamran Michael told, "105 new vacancies in the ministry of Minorities have been created". Michael said the minority rights and human rights are the top priority of his ministry. Michael told a delegation of local women in his office that since human rights and minority affairs have been made a separate government department, progress in both the field is visible in the society.
