The Ewing Hall Hostel of Forman Christian College University was taken over by Government of Punjab without prior notice to payout dues and repairs of the century old building which have moved anger among my minorities and human right activists across Pakistan and overseas.

The Forman Christian College was founded in 1864 by Presbyterian Church.  An American Presbyterian Missionary named Charles William Forman laid foundation of this college with name of Mission College. In 1894 the same institution was named with its founder Forman Christian College. In a nationalization drive by Prime Minister Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto the Forman Christian College along with other missionary Schools and College in Pakistan came in lot of Government of Pakistan in 1972.

The nationalization of Christian Schools, Colleges and Hospitals by Premier Bhutto faced protests by Christian minority but government of Pakistan did not denationalize these institutions but protests and demands continued.

In 1940 The Forman Christian College to the banks of Lahore Canal. The College remained independent in its finances until 1960. Afterwards it came under a government grant. But in 2003 it was denationalize and administration was handed over to Presbyterian Church of Pakistan.

The Ewing Hall Hostel is situated near Anarkali and very close to the famous Mall Road Lahore. It was built in 1916 by its principal Dr. James Caruthers Rhea Ewing and named after him.

It became a valuable building for students who reside in it and studied in Forman Christian College which was granted and approved to be university in 2004.

When contacted the government of Punjab, it was argued that Hostel was not in use of students from 1915 and building was not repaired while it was heritage site building. They further added that the lease amount was not paid since 1975. The outstanding government dues amount to be 107 million Rupees.

But the University administration says that lease amount is paid, and no government rent is due on property.

Pakistan Christian Congress has appealed Mariam Nawaz Sharif Chief Minister of Punjab to assure minorities that Ewing Hall Hostel building will be given back to Christians at an earliest.
