London: Paul Bekkers, the Netherlands' Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief, met yesterday at the Farnesina with Msgr. Marco Malizia and Dr. Cristiana Mele. Representing the Italian Council for Religious Freedom and Dialogue at the meeting were Prof. Shahid Mobeen and Dr. Salvatore Ciccarello. The discussion focused on both countries' commitment to religious freedom and the potential for dialogue as pathways to peace.

Prof. Shahid Mobeen, President of the Italian Council for Religious Freedom and Dialogue, states that the delicate task of building peace is made possible through the full recognition of human dignity—a dignity that is fully realized only when everyone is permitted to exercise their fundamental right to religious freedom. As Saint John Paul II put it, this right is the litmus test.

Building and maintaining human and institutional relationships is an essential step in this regard.
