ISLAMABAD: Pastor Imran Amanat, head of LEAD Ministries, has strongly condemned a reported incident in Islamabad in which the burial of a deceased Christian was allegedly interrupted at the Roman Catholic Christian Cooperative Housing Society cemetery.

According to members of the Christian community, during the funeral rites, personnel associated with the Bahria Town administration, accompanied by Islamabad Police officials, allegedly arrived at the cemetery and stopped the burial proceedings. The incident has generated deep concern among Christians, who regard a cemetery not merely as a piece of land but as a sacred place where the deceased are laid to rest with dignity, reverence, and respect.

Community representatives further alleged that, during the confrontation, some individuals entered the grave while wearing shoes. The allegation has raised profound concerns about the sanctity of the grave and the religious sensitivities attached to Christian burial traditions. For a grieving family already facing the pain of losing a loved one, any disruption to the final rites can be particularly distressing.

The Christian community maintains that it possesses documentary evidence and legal records concerning the cemetery and its use. At the same time, community members have called upon the Bahria Town administration to publicly clarify the legal basis for, and ownership claims over, the land. They have urged that the matter be resolved through transparent legal procedures rather than through confrontation at a sacred burial site.

Pastor Imran Amanat has expressed serious concern over what he described as an issue of religious dignity, equal protection, and justice for Pakistan’s Christian citizens.
