ISLAMABAD: December 24, 2008. The first event of Pakistan Peoples Party PPP selected and imposed Federal Minority Minister Shahbaz Bhatti was marked with protests and anger by Christians when they threw stones on organizers and blocked roads on distribution of Christmas Aid Cheques to not needy but members of All Pakistan Minority Alliance APMA only. All Pakistan Minority Alliance APMA is shadow organization used by Shahbaz Bhatti to bargain PPP selection to membership of National assembly of Pakistan and raised voice against Separate Electorate, the system allowed Christians to elect their representatives by their votes for national assembly of Pakistan and other democratic institutions since 2002. The imposed Joint Elections demanded by APMA on intimation of PPP empowers Muslim political groups to select and nominate Christians on reserved seats in NA and four provincial assemblies. Minority Federal Minister Shahbaz Bhatti announced the event of Christmas help in cash amounting 3000 to 5000 Rupees among poor Christians, which was his first public appearance. Shahbaz Bhatti selected 591 APMA members and invited them to Islamabad on December 22, to distribute cheques in a ceremony where real needy and poor Christian also arrived. When poor Christians saw that cheques are being given to only APMA members and rich people they protested and stoned organizers. The Minority Minister called police to arrest poor protesting Christians but area police refused to arrest poor Christians on Eve of Christmas. According to Daily Mail, The City Magistrate Khalid Yamin Sathi and Kohsar police station SHO Ashraf Shah after reaching the place tried to reconcile between the minister and demonstrators, but they could not harmonise the protesters.
