Concerned about Pakistani Christians...By Charles Williams
By :
Dear Editor I am always concerned about the treatment of Christians in Pakistan. Unfortunately, it is very hard to explain to the fundamentalists, that even though Pakistani Christians may share the same religion as those of the West, they are not citizens of those countries, nor they are agents or spies for them. This sentiment or thinking seems to be prevalent in nearly all Islamic countries. Pakistani Christians are Pakistanis and that's where their loyalty lies. We must also understand that Christianity began in the East and not in the west. Every time, a western nation, it does not matter How godless they maybe, do anything in the Islamic country, the Christians In that country bear the brunt of the local anger. Obviously there is a lot Of educating that needs to be done. My whole family lives in Pakistan and their safety and security and have other Christians does concern me to a great degree. I love Pakistan, because my ancestors were born there and are buried there, my parents were born there, so was my wife, my children and I. It's a shame that a handful of weak and cowardice people go around killing not only Christians but also their own in places of worship. So how do we solve this problem? 1. When innocent people are gunned down in churches, mosques or mandirs, this creates hatered, and fires up spirit of vengeance. 2. Hatered towards other religions, races, and people is imbedded in the hearts of those afflicted. 3. This then gives rise to rebellion, revenge and more killings, of course of the innocent people. 4. We instead of moving forward and thinking about our bright future, start to think about ways and means of getting even. You kill one of us, we'll kill 10 of yours attitude. 5. The net result of these hatreds not only affects us personally, but affects our community, country and the global scene. The net result is what we see today. Hence we get the comments, "if anyone wants to see hatered towards Christians, come to Pakistan". This is a sad situation. We need to do something about it. Buit first things first, From a Christian's point of view. Jesus said, "Seek ye first the kingdom of heaven and all these things will Be given unto you" 1. I believe Pakistani Christians throughout the world, wherever they are Should pray together once a month. Of course we should pray everyday, but as a community once a month. My suggestion is First Saturday of each month. 2. Let us all stand on one platform, let us not worry about who is going to be the leader, lets just get together. Lets forget the denominations we belong to and work as Pakistani Christians. 3. Once we are one in Pakistan, then we must form a forum of Christians in Asian countries. This is not to rebel but to pray for each other, and Support each other in times of need. Jesus said, when we believe in Him, then we all become one body, regardless of who we are. 4. Pray for unity amongst Christians and especially as Jesus said pray for those who persecute us, that God may give them the wisdom to understand their hatered towards us. 5. Let us not worry about seats in the government, or election processes or representations in assemblies, let us first seek the kingdom of heaven and God will guide us to places that we have never dreamed of. The diciples of Jesus, wanted Him, to overthrow the Roman empire and set up his kingdom, but He said my kingdom is not of this world. There is nothing wrong in being political, but I see so much enemity and hatered among Christians becasue of these politics. Hatered and Christianity cannot stand on the same platform. Let us all unite, pray for each other, uplift those who have fallen, carry those who cannot walk, speak for those who cannot speak, lead those who cannot see, care for the orphans, the widows and those who are helpless, then I believe God will entrust us with more strength and courage to achieve what we cannot in our own strength. May God bless you all. With Christian regards. Charles Williams
