Dear Pakistan Christian Post, I would like to reply to the letter that the Vice President of the Indian Christian Association of Atlanta wrote. It is a crime to rape anyone--anywhere, at any time. It happens in America. It happens in Pakistan. To my knowledge, no one has ever suggested that it is a crime related to one's religion. The law should prosecute the man, who rapes a woman. Is the justice system effective in Pakistan? There are many reasons to doubt whether the Pakistani system works at all. Take for example, the fact that the government made a landmark decision that "Ahmadi Muslims are not Muslims" (1974) even though they declare "la ila hilila Mohamad ar Rasulila"--there is One God and Only One God and Mohamed is His Messenger--the kalima of all Muslims. If an Ahmadi makes this pronouncement in Pakistan, he or she can be put in jail because it offends "real" Muslims. Pray for justice in the world and we will pray with you for that! I must, however, take issue with Mr.Castellino's question "Is this what Islam or the Prophet Mohammed teaches?" No prophet of God has ever advocated rape, as well he knows, if he is a truthful person. Prophets of God are obedient servants. They exemplify every good quality that God wishes mankind to emulate. Can he report a single crime committed by the Holy Prophet (pbuh)? No, he cannot. It is not fair of Mr. Castellino to blame the Holy Prophet (pbuh) for a crime committed by a Muslim. Would he suggest that Abraham or Moses committed such a crime? No, of course not. Indeed, it would be ludicrous. We know that God's messengers are all the opposite of sinful. Each person is responsible, in the law, for his or her own behavior. So it follows that when we go to heaven, God cannot be less just than man. In heaven, we will only be accountable for our own sins--not someone else's. Pray for justice, pray for peace. When the law is not just, that is the only peaceful option open to us.
