Former Federal Minister exposes himself and reinforces the fact that the plight of the Minorities in Pakistan is definitely not a matter of priority or concern for the self proclaimed Leaders of the community, who for personal gains they can stoop to any level. In a desperate attempt to gain the admiration of the present Government he can after making a mockery of the Christian community now pass such absurd comments. I would firstly like to inform Mr Salik that there are a total of over 10 Million Christians in Pakistan and not 6 Million as stated by him, secondly, are minority Christians actually living comfortably with their majority Muslims brothers in Pakistan? And are they really enjoying status of first citizenship?" is Pakistan really a "pro minority" country? As stated by him to the media recently (Below). Has Mr Salik forgotten or is he not aware of the dangerously controversial Blasphemy Laws that endanger the lives of every single non- Muslim Citizen of this country? Is he who claims to be a Champion of Human Rights, actually oblivious of the hundreds of fake Blasphemy cases against the religious minorities, Christians in particular? There are numerous articles in the Constitution of Pakistan that are undemocratic and unconstitutional. E.g. no non-Muslim can be elected as the President of Pakistan. Thus it has been evidently stated at the beginning of the constitution, that they (the non-Muslims) are not equal citizens of Pakistan, consequently resulting in a sense of deprivation, which is not only extremely unjust but undemocratic as well. Furthermore, the Senate is the highest Legislative institution in the country; seats have been allocated for non-Muslims in the National & Provincial Assemblies but not in the Senate. Non-Muslims face discrimination in all spheres of life, be it the educational institutions, corporate organizations, domestic workers etc. Women from the minority community are suffering sexual harassment and abuse on a regular basis. Churches have from time to time been burnt down to ashes, Christian villages and towns have been raided, homes have been burnt, the residents victimized and tortured, Bibles and sacred relics desecrated, all this resulting in perpetual fear and insecurity within the community. Has he forgotten the devastation of Shanti Nagar, the destruction of Sangla Hill, the cries of the innocent minorities languishing in Jails under fake cases of blasphemy, facing severe animosity and torture? Their families traumatized and uprooted, their chances of leading any kind of a safe and normal life diminished forever - their faith being their only fault. It is time to expose these people, so that our community is not misguided by such individuals who in the garb of well wishers are constantly seeking opportunities to accomplish personal motives. He requested President Zardari to present an enlightened and pro minority image of the nation during his proposed speech in upcoming UN general assembly's session this month, and also requested him (Zardari) to give a massage to the whole world from the UN platform on how 6 million minority Christians are living comfortably with their majority Muslims brothers in Pakistan and are enjoying status of first citizenship under the 1973 constitution.
