An open letter from the dead to the living
Bahawalpur, Murree and Taxilla - why have we been killed? What has been our sin? What crime did we commit? How long will that continue?
· Is it because the Christian leaders have chosen to support Pakistan in the Boundary Commission at the time of partition?
· Is it because in June 1947 during the session of the Punjab assembly the three casting, Christian votes decided that the present Punjab would become a part of Pakistan?
· Is it because we have given to this country a personality like Chief Justice A. R. Cornelius, who has served also as acting President? Not only this, but he represented Pakistan at international Jurist conferences and by portraying Islamic ideology held up the honor of this country.
· Is it because, Christian educational institutions have brought about well-known -present and late - personalities in religion, politics, society and literacy? Ranging from Sir Seyyed Ahmad Khan to Qaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Alama Mohammad Iqbal, Benezir, Nawaz Sharif and many others.
· Is it because, for the past 200 years thousands of Christian hospitals and dispensaries are working in this region, reaching far- off places where they bring healing to a poor, hurting and desperate humanity without any discrimination of skin color, race, religion.
· Or is it, because we have, whether important or less important, given our service faithfully to every governmental and non- governmental institution? Even in times of defending the country. Is our mistake that we have never initiated a revolt? Never formed a separatist movement? Never betrayed the country? Chosen the joint electoral system instead of separate electorates?
If all these are crimes then we are beyond any help, because Jesus Christ taught us this lesson in the Bible: Through the blessings of the upright a city prospers and he commands us to submit to the governing authorities.
Living brothers and sisters,
Whenever there are presidential elections in America, you have no vote. You are not asked for your opinion on any national or international policy, neither you are consulted before Afghanistan is attacked. In the very same way as the attackers of the World Trade Center have acted in their own intentions.
The treatment you are receiving today is nothing new. In 1979 during the events at Khana Ka'ba in Mecca and in later years throughout the dispute concerning the Babri Mosque in India you have been made guilty. Not only that, you also remember the events in Rahim Yar Khan and Shanti Nagar. You have forgiven then, and you should forgive today too. Since Jesus said: "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." When He was crucified He exclaimed: "Father, Creator and Lord, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing."
Oh God, protect our country, nation and government. Amen
