Elections postponed till February 18, 2008.

Islamabad: January 2, 2008. The Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan announced to postpone Jan. 8 national general elections to February 18, 2008 here today in a press conference.

Qazi Mohammad Farooq, the chief election commissioner said that elections shall be fair and transparent but its not possible to hold on due date in prevailing circumstances. The Pakistan Peoples Party and Muslim League (N) stressed to hold elections on January 8, but Muslim League (Q) wanted delay in polls. It is learned that President Musharraf shall address the nation few hours after this announcement to clarify government point of view after assassination of Benazir Bhutto in light of law and order situation.
