Shahbaz Bhatti adopted by PPP, Dr. Azim by PML (N) and Akram Masih by PML (Q) for National Assembly.

Islamabad: March 6, 2008. The Election Commission of Pakistan announced distribution of Minority reserved seats in National Assembly of Pakistan and Provincial assemblies among Muslim political parties here today.

There was no Christian woman adopted on 60 reserved seats for women in National Assembly because none of Muslim party filed for their adoption. There were 10 reserved seats for minorities in National Assembly of Pakistan as declared in Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan of 1973, while 10 seats were for women. The women reserved seats were raised to be 60 but minority seats are still 10, in recent elections of 2008. The Christian reserved seats were 6 in 1973, which were reduced to 4 in elections of 1985, and now in 2008, seats go down to three in new election system of joint elections. There is relief among Christians on adoption of Shahbaz Bhatti by Pakistan Peoples Party on reserved seats in National assembly because it will now reveal real face of Shahbaz Bhatti. Will he speak against blasphemy laws now? Will Shahbaz Bhatti demand the governorship of Punjab on floor of house? Will Shahbaz Bhatti speak against government being MNA on discrimination of Christians during his tours to Western countries? It is viewed that Shahbaz Bhatti will be out of Christian political scenario like J Salik after sitting on treasury benches. He is in government and Christian believes that he got what he dreamed. Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz adopts Dr. Azam from Sialkot but he is not known among Christian circles and it seems that he used his personal contacts for adoption instead of his services for Christians. Akram Masih was silent member of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) and he is back.
