Multan: March 13, 2008. (Report by Jawad Mazhar ROD): Pakistani Christians had to bear the lamentable news of execution of Zahid Masih.

While the bereaved Christian families of Pakistan were still mourning for their relatives and loved ones, who had died in Twin Suicide bomb attacks, in Lahore, the capital of Punjab Province. Zahid Masih 27 was hanged to death at 6:00am at Central Jail Multan, as scheduled. Many church, Para-church and advocacy & rights organizations had appealed to the high-ups to show clemency and abeyance the execution, at least, until after the Easter. But unfortunately all went in vain. Concerned relatives and ill-fated mother, who were waiting and crying inconsolably, outside Central Jail Multan, received the dead body of Zahid Masih at 8:00 am. It is pertinent to mention here that Zahid Masih was serving in Pakistan Army as a Sanitary Worker. Court Martial convicted him of death sentence for murdering a minor Muhammad Adnan 9, during his service tenure at the capital city Peshawar of conservative NWFP. Advocate Prince Rehan Iftikhar (General Secretary Human Rights Lawyers Group) who has filed a mercy appeal to the President and other high-ups said via especially arranged telephone call told ROD that during the court proceedings Zahid Masih was not given any chance to defend himself or hire an advocate for him. Advocate Prince Rehan Iftikhar said that government has treated Zahid Masih like a 'DOG' and no one heard our voice for the mercy.
