East Timor: May 20, 2008. The tiny Christian country in South East Asia won independence after armed struggle from Indonesian Muslim majority is celebrating its 6th independence ceremony today.

Dili, the capital of East Timor is major venue to mark Independence Day with mixed feeling of liberty and loss of friends and relatives during freedom struggle against oppressive rule of Muslim Indonesia. East Timor is second Christian Country in Asia while movements of freedom by Christians are underway in other Far East and South Asian states. AFP adds “Dili's government palace has been bedecked with international flags, including those of former occupiers Indonesia and Portugal, in preparation to receive government ministers, foreign dignitaries and United Nations officials. Troops, police, prison guards and firemen could be seen rehearsing on the streets of the seaside capital Monday in preparation for the ceremony while international forces patrolled nearby. The celebrations come just three months after President Jose Ramos-Horta was shot and wounded in a February 11 rebel attack which also targeted Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao”
