ISLAMABAD: September 20, 2008. (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari reiterating the government's resolve to fight terrorism and extremism with full force said this epidemic and cancer will be eliminated from the country at all costs.

"Terrorism is an epidemic, a cancer which we will eliminate at all costs," he said in a brief address to the nation late Saturday night after the deadly suicide attack outside Marriott hotel, which killed at least 40 people and injured some 150. The President said Pakistanis are a brave nation and not afraid of the terrorists and their cowardly acts. "Pakistanis consider their lives a trust of Allah Almighty and have no fear of death as its day is fixed." He said the day will come when these terrorists will bow their heads before the people of this country. "Pakistan is ours and we will save Pakistan," he added. He said no Muslim can commit such acts in the holy month of Ramazan. He said those who kill Muslims in Pakistan are not Muslims. "Islam or any other religion does not allow such barbaric acts." The President appealed all the democratic forces to come forward and join the efforts to save Pakistan and bring these perpetrators to task. President Zardari said the nation was celebrating democracy when this cowardly attack took place on the children and youth. He said he knows well the pain and anguish these acts of terrorism bring as he has himself been through this grief. "We in the PPP have buried many of our friends. I have myself buried Bibi. My heart bleeds in grief and I can feel your pain," he said. The President urged the people to make this pain their strength to fight the cancer of terrorism. He condoled with those who died in the blast and prayed for the recovery of the injured. "To the sisters who lost their brothers and the children whose fathers died, I would like to say that I am there for them. The government of Pakistan will take care of you."
