Christian protestors baton charged by police against power shutdown in their area

Peshawar: October 11, 2008. Christians staged protest demonstration against the unannounced load shedding at Kohati Chowk here on Friday.

The protesters were holding banners and placards inscribed with anti-government slogans and in favour of their demands, while the Circular road was blocked for half an hour. The police baton charge the protesters in order to disperse them, the protesters calim, while the police refused allegation and said that they had not lathi charge any one but only disperse them. It is to be said that PESCO in the province of ANP-led provincial government has again start long disruption of power supply after Eid-ul-Fitr. The protesters were of the view that despite lodging many complains to the PESCO local office of the area but the officials had taken no notice and the power had been remaining suspended for hours. They said that they were in minority, and the law of Pakistan had fixed laws for minority, they should be given their due rights that equal to the common citizens’ rughts. Strongly condemning lothi charge by the police on the peaceful protesters, they demanded of the provincial government that it should ask the concerned official of the atrocities being made with the Christian Community. The protesters warned that if the power supply was not immediately restored and the load shedding timing was not decreased, the Christian community would continue their protest and would come out on GT road.—Agencies
