Karachi. April 15, 2009. (PCP) The Pakistani Christians decided here today in a meeting to boycott every function or meeting called by Christian selected members of National Assembly who voted in a resolution to pass Shariat Regulation Bill 2009

for Kazi Courts under Sharia Law in Swat Valley, Malakand, Kohistan and Northern Areas of Pakistan. The Shariat Regulation Bill was presented by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani in National Assembly of Pakistan for approval on April 13, 2009. The Bill was forwarded by ANP led government in NWFP which entered in a peace deal with Sufi Mohammad, leader of banned Tehreek Nifaze Shariat-e-Mohammadi TNSM to end insurgency of Taliban in Swat Valley. The Shariat Regulation Bill 2009 was passed by a resolution vote by Pakistan Peoples Party PPP, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz PML(N), Pakistan Muslim League Quaid PML(Q), Awami National Party ANP, Jamiat UlmaI-e-Islam JUI(F) while Mohajir Quami Movement MQM staged walk out of session. The Christian selected member of National Assembly by PPP and Federal Minister for Minorities Shahbaz Bhatti voted in favor of Shariat Regulation Bill 2009. The Christian selected MNA by PML(Q) Akram Gill and Dr. Azam of PML(N) were also among Muslim leaders to endorse Sharia laws. The 17th amendments in Constitution of 1973, empowers Muslim political parties to select Christian parliamentarians under Joint Electorate instead of elections on reserved seats for Christians by franchise voting. The Pakistan Christian Congress PCC rejected selection and demanded election on reserved seats for minorities under Separate Electorate or Dual Voting rights. In a telephonic address to Central Council of PCC meeting held on April 15, 2009, at Karachi, Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, Chief of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC urged Christians to boycott any reception or function in honor of Shahbaz Bhatti, Federal Minister for Minorities. “Christians must raise questions in functions of Shahbaz Bhatti who always demanded repeal of blasphemy laws and issued statements condemning implementation of Sharia laws on minorities then why he voted for Shariat Regulation Bill 2009, and what shall be future of Christians in Swat Valley and Nortern Areas?” said Nazir Bhatti Shahbaz Bhatti attracted national and international forums when he presented threatening letters in Islamabad press conference distributed by Taliban to Christians of Mardan and Swat Valley to accept Islam or ready to die. Shahbaz Bhatti also used every forum in his tours to Western countries raising voice against blasphemy laws and persecution of Christians in Pakistan. “The Shariat Regulation Bill 2009, shall change geo-political landscape of South Asia when Taliban shall take control of Pakistan and Afghanistan” said Nazir Bhatti The voices are being raised by Punjab and other parts of NWFP to implement Sharia law in these two provinces of Pakistan following foot steps of Swat Valley. The TNSM and Tehreek Taliban Pakistan TTP are among list of UNO as terrorist organizations and banned by law in Pakistan but entering in accord or truce by government of Pakistan is surprising for people of Pakistan.
