SLMP, CLAAS and local leaders Protest Against Attacked on Christian by Muslim Mob In District Kasur

Lahore: July 7, 2009. (PCP report) Sharing Life Ministry Pakistan (SLMP) with collaboration of Center For Legal Aid Assistance & Settlement (CLAAS), other Human Rights Organizations,

members of civil societies and Christian clergymen staged a procession against management of District Kasur, today on July 6, 2009 at Lahore Press Club. A number of Christians led by Mr. Sohail Johnson Chief Coordinator Sharing Life Ministry Pakistan (SLMP), Mr. Joseph Francis National Director CLAAS and Senior Pastor Anwer Fazal of Eternal Life Ministry and pastor Majeed Able got together in front of Lahore Press Club and raised slogans against local government of District Kasur and demanded justice of persecuted Christian villagers of Bahmni Wala Village District Kasur. It is important to mention here that large numbers of Christians from village Bahmni Kasur were intending to participate in procession but police blocked them in their houses and they could not come to Lahore. Mr. Joseph Francis National Director CLAAS, in his speech, pointed out negligence of Police authorities and local management to provide legal rights to Christians of the village. He said that local police has not taken legal action against the Muslims who attacked Christians, tortured them, destroyed their houses and robbed their valuables. He also pointed out that District Coordination Officer (DCO), District Police Officer (DPO) and other relevant authorities are putting pressure on innocent Christians of village Bahmni Wala Kasur to withdraw their application against the culprit. He also demanded suspension orders of Station House Officer (SHO) of local police station Sadar Kasur along with his subordinates. He said that the angry mob attacked Christians in presence of local police, now police has joint hands with the offenders and shielding them for their own personal interest. He also demanded arrest of Qaari Lateef who is main character in this incident as bone of contention. In press release it has been highlighted that an illegal group of Muslims attacked Christians on 30th June 2009. They tortured Christian men and women at Bahmni Wala Village District Kasur. More than 600 Muslims destroyed 84 houses of Christians. They also robbed valuables of Christians. Moreover they cut off electricity power and water supply to Christians of the village. Christians are in crises whereas Muslim shopkeepers of the village completely boycotted Christian villagers. Press release also describes that local government of District Kasur, police officials and other authorities did not take any action against the culprits. In fact in has been revealed that police are shielding the real culprits. Mr. Joseph Francis and Sohail Johnson gave briefing to media and expressed his sorrows that print and broadcast media also did not play their role to highlight the incident. He invited media persons to come for coverage by Thursday, June 9, 2009. Senior Pastor Anwer Fazal also attended the procession. He prayed for protection, restoration and peace for Christians of village Bahmni Wala. At the end of procession, Mr. Sohail Johnson thanked all the participants and urged them to keep remember Christian victims in their daily prayers.
