Pakistani Christians pushed to bonded political slavery by the joint elections with amendments in peoples representation act. Nazir Bhatti.
24 Aug 2002
New York. August 23. Mr. Nazir S Bhatti, President, Pakistan Christian congress said that 15 million Christians in Pakistan have been turned in bonded political slaves with the recent amendments in the election system and amendments in the peoples re
Mr. Nazir S Bhatti said that it's not a democratic process in any term that Christians may vote for Muslim candidates and the Muslims may select their representation in parliament. He said it shall be an imposed leadership of Muslims on the Christians and shall provide chance to reach in parliament to only those who have been pleading the case of joint election system on the instructions of these Muslim political parties and were unable to seek the votes of minority community. He said that separate election system was the true democratic process and Christians have been demanding the rights of dual votes to elect their representation as well as to cast votes for the Muslim candidates in their respective constituencies but by these amendments Christian having 4 reserved seats in the National Assembly of Pakistan shall remain slaves of these Muslim political parties because they shall be selected by their Muslim masters not by the Christians.
Mr. Nazir S Bhatti said that Christians have the bitter experience of these joint elections and selection on the reserved seats in 1973 when the Pakistan Peoples Party imposed the unknown leadership like Samuel Bedi and Fr. Derrick Mesquite from Multan division that they have only contacts with the PPP leader Ghulam Mustafa Khrr and same was the case with all Christian selected parliamentarians in other provinces. He said that we have experienced that PPP imposed the Christian Butler of Balawal House as parliamentarian on Christians in Singh. We have fears that again under this selection system of join electorate the PPP, Muslim League and MQM shall impose the Christian leadership of their choice and interest on the 15 million Christians and such faces shall surface who can not even dare to contest the local body elections from Christian votes in city governments.
Mr. Bhatti said that PPP. Muslim League, MQM and other Muslim religious political parties have no programmed for the Christians in their manifestos and we doubt that they shall never raise voice for the minorities in the parliament and nor shall the Christian selected members by their votes in the house.
Mr. Bhatti said that these elections are black spot on democracy and in the name of democracy the Christians shall turned to be boned political slaves. He said the Christians shall not accept this imposed leadership and we strongly condemn these amendments in the representation act and joint elections without dual votes and to bar the independent Christians candidates to file their nominations for these elections
Mr. Bhatti appealed to the European community team being observer in Pakistan to mark these elections to intervene in the matter to save the Christians to be being turned as bonded political slaves in Pakistan by the government by these elections
