London: March 23, 2017. Prime Minister Theresa May had described the attacker as a “peripheral” figure, saying he had “not been part of the current intelligence picture” before the suspected terror attack unfolded in London on Wednesday.

Officials said the individual was inspired by “Islamic terrorism” before he mowed down crowds on Westminster Bridge and stabbed policeman Keith Palmer to death outside Parliament. Four people died, including a policeman and the attacker, and 29 others were injured – seven of whom are in a critical condition after the attack. The so-called Islamic State group claimed it was behind the attack, in which PC Keith Palmer, Aysha Frade and American tourist Kurt Cochran were killed. British born Khalid Masood was shot at the scene of the Westminster attack Former English teacher and muslim-convert Khalid Masood, 52, who was born in Kent but moved to the West Midlands, was identified as the knifeman responsible for carrying out the Westminster terror attack on Wednesday. Scotland Yard said Masood was not the subject of any current investigations and there was no prior intelligence about his intent to mount a terrorist attack. But he was known to police and had a range of previous convictions for assaults, including GBH, possession of offensive weapons and public order offences.
