The statement from the Council, Saudi Arabia's highest religious body, came a day after Saudi authorities arrested at least 11 suspected militants and seized a large weapons cache in southern Jizan province. "This courageous statement of leadership from the Saudi Council of Senior Clerics deligitimizes the use of Islam by militants and extremists as a pretext to carry out acts of violence," stated Institute President Joseph K. Grieboski. "The Council of Clerics has reaffirmed that terrorism is not an act of faith; it is an act of politics."
