Lahore. April 2. Its most breaking news for Pakistani Christians who have been demanding the establishment of Christian university in Pakistan that FC college Lahore shall be a University in near future. This esteemed Christian academic Institution i

The PPP government in 1972 and denationalized by the present Mushraf government nationalized the FC College. The presence of General Mushraf in the FC college convocation was great support to the Christians when the chief executive of Pakistan clarified that missionary schools are no threat to Islam in Pakistan in his speech. Its also fact that FC college have served more to the Muslim students and Christian students have faced difficulties to seek admission in this institution before nationalization of this missionary college. The small number of Christian graduated from this college were the relatives and children of the Christian clergy or the lucky to get recommendations of the church institutions in Pakistan. The majority of Christian students were never beneficiaries of this college. The demand of Christians put forward with government of Pakistan to denationalize the missionary schools in protest processions and conferences based to handing over the missionary schools to a Board comprised of local Christians social, religious and political workers on the past experience of these missionary schools to deny admissions to poor Christian students. The FC College and other missionary schools have been denationalized and handed over to the foreign personals and organizations instead of local leaders and Christian social workers have been kept away from this denationalization process but still Christians hope that missionary schools shall serve the general Christians of Pakistan and admission policy shall not circle with clergy relatives. Its learned that in Last March in the Memorandum of Understanding that Mr. Bhatti from FC college signed with the Government of the Punjab, one article said that as soon as the Church applies for a Degree Granting Status for FCC, the Government will grant the charter. On Tuesday, the Governor of the Punjab signed the Ordinance granting the FCC Degree granting status, which means that in the coming years the college will grant its own degrees to the students graduating from the FCC. FC College plans for starting M. Phil and Ph. D. programmes as well in some disciplines. The college management will now work out new syllabus for studies and admit students on that basis and start granting its own degrees by the 2005 or 2006. The new name of FCC will be Forman Christian University.
