Rahwali (Gujranwala): On April 6, 2004, Two year-old Neha Masih, was brutely raped by a 24-year-old Muslim man, Abid Hussain in a straw pile of a dairy farm, and was subsequently left in a ditch.

According to the reports, the Hussain and Masih families both worked and lived at this dairy farm. They had known each other for the last 3 months. While Neha’s mother was doing few chores, the assailant preyed on Neha and carried her away. The search started as soon as the families found out that Neha was missing. Hussain family located the ill-fated girl first and quickly washed her bleeding body in a nearby pond, an apparent attempt to conceal the crime. However, Neha's family - upon finding her - saw at once that she was in misery. She was taken to Civil Hospital, but the physicians could not fix her internal injuries and referred her to a more specialized care facility in a nearby larger city. The assailant was captured and remains in police custody. Though this heinous crime is one of its own, previous experiences show that justice in dealing with Muslim on Christian crimes is often twisted by pressurizing the victim’s family not to pursue the case. The life, honor, religion and property of minorities carry far less security than the Muslim majority Umma in Pakistan. The Masih family has since removed themselves from the dairy farm and now has no place to live. (Courtesy: CVOP & CLAAS)
