The meeting of the CLAAS delegation was arranged to highlight and address the problems of Christians in Pakistan. Barrister Qamar Shams enlightened the issues related to the discriminatory laws prevailing in Pakistan, while Mr. Nasir Saeed reasoned for the amendments in the Blasphemy Laws and other discriminatory laws such as the Hudood Ordinances, Law of Evidence (Qanoon-e-Shahadat) and Blood Money Law. Mr. Nasir Saeed requested from the members of the Commonwealth Secretariat to have a dialogue with the Pakistani Government on the dual-vote right and effective representation in the Assemblies and the Senate. Further, that the conversion of a Christian woman after marriage with a Muslim man, her Christian marriage should not be dissolved. Many families become victims of this law. He further said that the Christians should be exempted from the Sharai law and their case should be dealt with accordance of the ordinary law and in ordinary courts. He said that there should be a clear guideline for the police and there should be a law against force conversion. Talking about Blasphemy laws Mr. Nasir said that innocent people who prove not guilty should be given compensation. There should be protection of Life and security of jobs for Christians in Pakistan. Mr. Nasir Saeed said that the Christians are living in Pakistan for thousands of years but still today they have not got their equal rights nor they were never considered equal citizens, this is why there is no Christians Minister and no ambassador in any country. Mr. Mathew Neuhaus and Saeed Akbar Shah and other participants of the meeting considered all the demands valid and said that they were not aware of amount of persecution the Christians face in Pakistan. They further said they will definitely talk about the plight of Christians with Pakistani Government, Mr. Saeed said that CLAAS has approached the Government many times and the government is aware about these issues but they never took these matters seriously, showing his deep concern Mr. Saeed said that unfortunately none of the Pakistani leaders takes the issues of human rights seriously until the situation becomes worse than Balochestan. Mr. Saeed said for the progress of the country it’s very important that all the citizens should be given equal rights.
