NWFP government grants bail to 13 Muslims who burnt down 200 Christian homes and Hindu Temple.

Nowshera. July 17, 2005. The 13 Muslims arrested under terrorist laws on June 28 on setting fire 200 homes and a Hindu Temple in Nowshera when Muslim mob attacked Christian-Hindu mixed areas to protest desecration of Quran were set free

The NWFP province is governed by MMA, a six religious parties alliance. The anti-terror courts in Pakistan are meant to deal with iron hand but in this case anti-terrorism court Wednesday bailed out as many as 13 Muslim culprits when Islamic authorities in the Nowshera with pressure forced Christian and Hindu effected communities to enter into a compromise with arrested Muslims. The court presided over by judge Shahji Rehman allowed their bail applications against two surety bonds of Rs100, 000 each in light of forced compromise. The alleged arsonists were named Abdul Hadi, Yunas, Fahim, Zafrul Islam Farooqi, Abid Mahmood, Nazish Iqbal, Zulfiqar, Munir Tariq, Asad Tariq, Waqas Shahzad, Raj Muhammad and Mohammad Atiq. The police had charged them under Sections 395, 295-A, 436, 341, 427, 148, 149 PPC read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997. A Christian, Yousaf Masih, who was working in a house of Army officer and burning his old papers on his orders was accused of burning pages of Quran by one Muslim and reported to police of desecration of Holy Book. The police arrested Yousaf Masih under blasphemy laws.
