Washington, September 7: A forum at the US State Department will consider the impact of child marriage prevalent in India, Nepal, Ethiopia and Nigeria on the nation's development goals.
It is being organized by the International Centre for Research on Women (ICRW) in collaboration with the State Department"s Office of International Issues, Save the Children, and the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) on September 14.
The forum will "draw attention to the causes and harmful consequences of early marriage in the developing world. Experts from the U.S. Government, international organizations and the diplomatic community will offer insight on child marriage and recommend effective policies and strategies to counter the practice around the world."
It hopes to offer effective strategies to curb the practice, a release by the organizers said.
