New Delhi, Nov. 8: The All-India Christian Council has sought withdrawal of, or suitable amendments to, the proposed Foreign Con tribution (Management and Control) Bill 2005, as the bill in its present form would violate the constitu tional protection provided for freedom of religion. The organisation felt that Section 5 (IV) of the bill, which uses terms such as "conversion through inducement or force, either directly or indirectly, from one religious faith to anoth er", is draconian by nature and will be used to target Christian institutions. Expressing concern over the "adverse impact" on the freedom of faith of the minority communities in India and on the work of Christian institutions, the organisation said that the proposed bill, which is sup posed to replace the FCRA Act 1976, gives an impres sion that the new bill was meant to control the flow of foreign contribution, instead of facilitating the same for programmes and activities for the good of the poor. In a media commu nique, the organisation apprehended that the "bill provided ample scope for misuse of its provisions that were ostensibly intended to control and prevent the use of foreign funds for anti-national activities
