A Missionary Beaten up in Mandi District of Himachal Pradesh

New Delhi, March 25, 2007: Mr. Raju – a missionary in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh was beaten up by Hindu fanatics on February 25, 2007. Police has refused to file First Information Report (FIR.) Sources reaching to All India Christian Council said that Hindu fanatics entered his house forcefully along with local Media personnel and took photographs of his house where he used to conduct prayer meeting along with other fellow Christians. They forced him to local police station and report his Christian activities. Latter returning back to his home, the mob attacked on Mr. Raju. He was brutally beaten up and suffered several injuries. On following day, he went to lodge complain in Joginder Nagar police station, but police official refused to register FIR. Latter on the day, Mr. Raju went to District Headquarter of Mandi and submitted the written complain to take action against defaulters. Mr. Raju reports to All India Christian Council that a month has passed, no action against the culprits has taken. Local police instead of protecting the Christian minorities, has insisted Mr. Raju to obtain permission from District Magistrate to carry on the Christian activities. There is no law required for any Christian to obtain permission to carry Christian activities as per as the fundamental rights to profess, practice and propagate the religion that any citizen of India may like. False allegation of force and fraudulent means of conversion have been falsely booked against many Christian minority members while complains against the defaulters of fundamental human rights committed against Christians are refused to register in police stations. Himachal Congress Government's "The Himachal Pradesh Freedom of Religious Bill 2006," in its nature is the anti-freedom religious and anti-secularism was passed in state Assembly on December 29, 2006 and Governor signed into the law on February 19, 2007, has not only surprised many Congress men but insulted the secularism which Congress upholds as its strong ideology. Justice Vijay Bahuguna in a TV Panel discussion on March 12, 2007 have said that force and fraudulent means of conversion is illegal and there is no need of another law which violates secular state of India. All India Christian Council appeals Himachal Congress Party to ensure the Christian minorities in the state to protect and punish the fascist forces who violate the fundamental rights of every Indian citizen.
